MUNACA’s position on AGSEM Strike – April 16th, 2015

Dear Members,

As you have been informed, AGSEM, representing Teaching Assistants and Invigilators, will be holding a strike on April 16th. The strike is intended to be a one-day strike, with follow-up action in the fall. Pickets will be at the Currie Gym (possibly other locations as well) with a 3 p.m. rally at Roddick Gates. MUNACA supports this action and asks that no MUNACA members attempt to replace any AGSEM employees, during this or any other strike action. To do so would be considered “Scabbing”. For any strike to be effective, it is imperative that the striking workers’ duties not be done, thus emphasizing the importance and value of these employees.

Furthermore, you have the right to refuse to cross a picket line in accordance to Article 18.02 of the MUNACA/PSAC Collective Agreement. Your employer cannot reprimand you in any way. However, you must inform your supervisor that you cannot come in to work due to a picket line, and the employer does have the right to not pay you for the time you are not at work.

Other ways you can show your support:

• Walk the picket line with AGSEM members for 15 minutes;
• Honk your horn or make other shows of vocal support;
• Bring them something to eat or drink;
• Join the 3 p.m. rally at Roddick Gates

MUNACA was supported by campus unions during our 2011 strike, now they need your support!

In solidarity!
